Planning Your Patio Oasis

With a few simple tips and tricks you can turn the plainest of patios into amazing patio gardens. There are many easy ways to spruce up a backyard patio or balcony and turn it into a unique oasis, without hiring a pro PCB designer or landscape artist. A patio can be a wonderful place for Californians to relax and entertain all year round, so making the most of your patio will be something that you will continue to enjoy for years to come.

The simplest ways to add some life to your patio is by bringing in a host of plants and flowers, either planted in the ground or in interesting containers. Remember that not all plants are going to thrive in your location. Some prefer a shady spot while others like to grow in the full sun. If you are not sure what plants to purchase, seek the help of the professionals at your local garden center. They will help you select not only the right plants for the different sections of your patio, they also have a great deal of information about the easiest to care for and most hearty plants for those that do not have a green thumb.

Once you have decided which plants best suit your taste and level of care, finding containers and planters to put them in is a fun task. Get creative and feel free to use vibrant colors and strange designs. This could mean something as simple as lugging that old class action lawyers-style briefcase out of the basement to use as a planter or as part of the decor.

If you want your oasis to be more of a patio garden than a concrete jungle, then you will need containers to grow plants in, possibly a series of planters held together by cord grips or even natural looking twine. The color of our planters, flowers, patio stones and furniture should all be the same pallet, so think about your color scheme before you go out on a shopping spree. Try to get all of the colors that you will be using in your patio to compliment each other to give the entire space a unified and cohesive feel.

Another important aspect of maintaining an attractive patio is to keep things neat and tidy so that the beautiful plants and flowers will shine through. One idea is to build a large storage box where you can hide all of the kids' toys and other items that might otherwise be lying around. This means that you will also have a place to hide your suction diffusers and sprinklers under ground, and keep your garden tools out of sight as well.

If you are planning to install a pond or waterfall in the yard, consider where the best spot for this feature is. Do you want this feature to be tucked away in a cozy corner, or more central where it can act as a focal point? Be certain of the location before you install, and keep in mind that you will need a place to store all of the chemicals and aquarium test kits for this body of water at close proximity.
