The Fremont Unified School District has 29 elementary schools (K-6), 5 junior high schools for grades 7-8, and 5 comprehensive high schools for students in grades 9-12: American, Kennedy, Irvington, Mission San Jose and Washington, along with James Logan High School in Union City and Newark Memorial High School in Newark make up the Mission Valley Athletic League. The district also has a continuation high school, an independent study program, and an adult school.
Fremont also contains the Fremont Christian School and California School for the Deaf, Fremont.
The main campus of Ohlone College is located in Fremont, with a smaller center in Newark. Other universities include Northwestern Polytechnic University, DeVry University, and University of California, Berkeley has an extension campus.
